Born in Embers

In various areas, fire has long acted as a medium that brought a particular matter into the desired state of aggregation.

The blazing central installation of the ›Late Bronze Age‹ exhibition area represents the emergence of new religious ideas. Suddenly, from around 1300 BC onwards, the corpse was transformed into ashes and smoke, transporting the deceased into a new sphere. The death ritual shifted to the site of the cremation fire, which remained spatially separate from the grave. The remains of the dead were usually buried in urns.

Sometimes multiple sets of crockery were deposited in the grave, which suggests a special death ritual.
